Arcadiadaily – Bridging the Gap has emerged as one of the most impactful initiatives in Trinidad, offering young students the chance to gain skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Organized by the Global Shapers Community (Port of Spain Hub) in collaboration with the Caricom Youth Ambassador Corps, the program aptly titled From Classroom to Career was held on August 23, 2025, at the Brix Hotel in St. Ann’s. The event attracted more than two dozen secondary school students eager to understand the demands of the professional world. Participants spent the day learning vital workplace etiquette, from dressing appropriately to building professional relationships, while also exploring the finer points of formal dining etiquette.

Bridging the Gap placed special emphasis on personal development as a foundation for career success. Among the highlights of the event was a hands-on session led by former Miss World, Giselle Laronde-West, who guided students through dining protocols in an engaging, interactive format. This not only helped participants grasp the subtleties of social behavior but also instilled confidence in navigating professional spaces. Such activities demonstrated that building a career is not solely about academic excellence but also about character, communication, and confidence. The program’s approach underlined the belief that workplace readiness includes both technical competence and cultural awareness.
Bridging the Gap reflects the broader mission of the Global Shapers network. A worldwide community of young leaders under 30 working to address local, regional, and global challenges. For Trinidad, this initiative is especially timely, as the nation grapples with rising concerns over crime and youth vulnerability. Project lead Zion Benjamin emphasized that the program aims to create “a positive difference in the lives of young people,” providing them with constructive opportunities and an alternative path toward success. By combining mentorship, skills training, and community support. The initiative seeks to empower a new generation to pursue careers with integrity and ambition.
