The All Saints’ Episcopal Day School Choristers were chosen to participate in the January world premiere of The Peacemakers by composer and conductor Karl Jenkins at Carnegie Hall.
The Choristers of All Saints’ joined one additional children’s choir, along with an orchestra, to total more than 300 musicians.
“The Carnegie Hall trip was fantastic, truly inspiring seeing all the children on stage,” said Kristine Shapiro the mother of one of the sixth graders who took part in the trip. “Their hard work paid off. They sounded terrific. We loved the experience and hope to be asked back next year.”
Chelsey Brutlag, a seventh grader, saw the moment as a once in a lifetime chance. “It was a phenomenal trip and a great learning experience,” she said. “Carnegie Hall was an amazing space with so many seats. When I walked in, there were people sitting everywhere.
“It was an amazing trip and well worth all of the extra practice. I would do it again. The music relaxes you. You don't feel the pressure. You just sing.”
Fifty All Saints’ students in fourth through eighth grade made the trip to New York City for the performance. The Choristers, a choir program for All Saints’ students, is directed by Scott Youngs.
The Peacemakers main theme is to incorporate works from the world’s greatest peacemakers, including Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and Mother Theresa, as well as words from the Bible and the Qu’ran.
