Christine Hawes, a teacher at Ingleside Middle School, has renewed her National Board Certification, a prestigious teaching credential that reflects teaching excellence.
The National Board Certification is awarded to teachers who have met the high standards developed by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards “through intensive study, self-assessment and evaluation.” Hawes and seven other SUSD teachers were recognized for their achievement a district governing-board meeting in January.
“SUSD (Scottsdale Unified School District) is so proud of these elite teachers who have pursued rigorous professional development to further their knowledge and practice of teaching and learning,” assistant superintendent Andi Fourlis said.
As of 2012, 46 currently employed SUSD teachers have attained the National Board Certification.
The Scottsdale Unified School District Foundation awarded teachers with $4,400 in grants to help them attain the certification.
